This is a studio and lecture course exploring such fundamental topics relating to interior design education, as (1.) the principles and elements of design, (2.) human dimensions as they relate to interior spaces, furnishings, equipment and space planning, (3.) the development of a conceptual framework as a foundational part of the design process, and (4.) the verbal as well as the visual languages of presentation. Students will learn, develop and apply decorating and design knowledge as related to residential interiors. Students will explore both practical and abstract skills for space planning, spatial perception, design communication as well as design terminology. These skills are incorporated, reinforced and assessed in projects, group discussions, guided critiques and workshops.
