Students examine the importance of valuing the strength, capacity, and capability of families, children and individuals with disabilities in order to establish respectful and responsive relationships. Students apply various communication skills and strategies and use the principles of family/person centered practice to support, enable, and empower families/individuals to build capacity. Using theoretical knowledge on diversity in families, family systems, family dynamics, context, culture and complex client needs, students develop support plans to demonstrate professional practice.
