This course explores and examines various theoretical frameworks, debates, domains and conceptualizations in child development from six to twelve years. It considers how children learn and the potential impact of hereditary and environmental factors on development with the purpose of gaining a holistic understanding of the child. The course critically analyzes varying behaviours and abilities among and between children with consideration given to contextual factors that may enable each child. The course also focuses on how theoretical perspectives of child development guide practice, including those current issues that challenge and/or support traditional views on child development.
