This course examines 20th century fashion from an economic, sociological, psychological, political, and environmental viewpoint. Perspectives of designers, theories of fashion, and the politics of fashion are analyzed. From the launch of the first "maison de couture" in 1858, through the colourful "youthquake" of the 1960s and the rise and decline of the "supermodel", fashion has always been a reflection of society and its values.
