In this introduction to the fashion industry, students learn about the fashion industry from a business perspective and how important the industry is to the economy in both Canada and the world. Students build on their fundamental understanding of economic principles and learn how they apply to the rationale and decision-making in the fashion industry. The basic language and principles of fashion are explored as students examine the components of the fashion industry as it exists within the Canadian and global market. From the advent of the industrial revolution through current trends affecting contemporary fashion from an economic perspective, this course explores the close relationship between economic concepts and their implication for fashion while providing a basic introduction to all the key components of the industry in today's environment.
