Students discuss the core legal issues that are relevant to a financial planning practice, including family law, trusts and estate law, and property law. Students review the ethical and practice standards mandated by the Financial Planning Standards Council. Students explore the Canadian legal system including the fundamentals of tort and contract law. Students examine the various elements involved in estate planning and the process employed to ensure that there is a smooth distribution of an individual's estate after his or her death. The potential impact of powers of attorney, wills and trusts combined with a detailed understanding of the administrative process and various tax implications are required considerations relative to the development and implementation of a comprehensive estate plan.
