Virtual Production - An Overview of the Pipeline and Unreal Engine

This course offers an introductory overview of Virtual Production (VP), beginning with exploration of the different applications of VP and the impact of VP in the global and Canadian film industry. Students will explore the ways in which their existing film training can be enhanced by harnessing the power of in-engine and studio-based modes of Virtual Production. Students will come to understand the democratic power of Unreal Engine (UE), the UE marketplace, asset selection and environment design. Students will learn the basics of using UE in a LAB workshop as part of the course from expert guest speakers as well as complementary online modules. Students will emerge with a refined proposal for a virtual production motion picture using UE complete with preliminary tests, and with a premise for an ancillary game or other metaverse experience.
