Soundscapes for Media

Course Code: FMPE 4001

Academic Year: 2025-2026

This course explores the theoretical and creative principles of sound design in both fiction and non-fiction filmmaking, with a focus on the six core roles in audio postproduction: Sound Effects, Foley, Dialogue, ADR, Music, and Mixing. Using real-world production elements, students analyze sound in media and develop the critical and creative skills needed to design a comprehensive, immersive, and professionally produced soundscape. Through a series of inventive exercises, students refine their listening abilities and creative techniques in sound production. The course culminates in a full audio treatment for one of the third-year Dramatic Short films developed in the Core Skills Electives courses.
