This course provides an in-depth introduction to the art and craft of lighting for cinematography. Through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, students explore the fundamental principles of light and how it shapes mood, depth, and visual storytelling on screen. Topics include lighting instruments and modifiers, color temperature, exposure, contrast, and lighting setups for various genres and environments. Students will practice designing and executing lighting plans for studio and location shoots while developing an understanding of the collaborative role of the lighting team in professional film production. Emphasis is placed on safety, creativity, and technical proficiency in achieving cinematic lighting styles.
