Professionalism and Ethics

In this course students focus on ethics, professionalism and the intersections between, self, individuals, communities, society and the profession of Fire Services. Through introspection students enhance their awareness of their role in Fire Services. Students develop a professional identity, adopt professional decision-making skills, reflect on their own social location, and examine their own values and beliefs. Using a case study model students examine ethical dilemmas and employ strategies of intervention to complex issues. The importance of skill development, mental wellness, and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) for emergency services personnel will be emphasized throughout the course.
