Grief Issues

This course will focus on the dominant theories of grief, providing a foundation for understanding what grief is and how it manifests itself. There will be an analysis of what is considered "normal" grief reaction versus "pathological" grief reaction and information regarding community supports and resources for people in need. The topic of children and grief will be discussed in detail, along with strategies to assist children in working through their grief. Students will learn about the goals of counselling and will be given opportunities to practice their counselling skills. Finally, there is a detailed look at crisis intervention and care for the caregiver.
