This course combines the study of leadership with a critical exploration of social justice, focusing on how leaders can drive change and promote equity across diverse communities and institutions. By integrating perspectives from sociology, political science, literature, and women and gender studies, students will examine leadership theories through the lens of social justice, addressing issues such as systemic inequality, privilege, power dynamics, and advocacy. Key topics include transformational leadership, Indigenous leadership, intersectionality, grassroots organizing, ethical leadership, and the role of leaders in creating inclusive, equitable environments. Students will engage in case studies, reflective exercises, and community-based projects to develop the skills necessary to lead with integrity and a commitment to equity and justice.
