Course Code: GPHL 210
Academic Year: 2024-2025
In lectures and seminar discussions of a range of primary texts ranging from works of theology, literature and philosophy to contemporary scientific studies of neurochemical or social causes of deviance, we consider the various ways in which people have sought to understand the causes and effects of evil. During the second part of the term, student groups lead seminar meetings devoted to particular themes of courses texts. By the end the course, students have a better sense of the numerous avenues of investigation adopted by writers fascinated by evil. Students' participation in lectures and seminars, coupled with their work on written assignments, will help them practice and prepare for the higher-level reasoning tasks required to complete course-work at the university level.
