Students identify various pathologies within the peripheral and central auditory system. Students collaborate confidently with other medical professionals if referral is warranted. Through this course, students understand the pathologies behind different types of hearing loss such as hyperacusis, tinnitus, and noise induced hearing loss. Students engage in exercises that explore the various treatment options available for these pathologies and relay this information to patients or in the form of a medical referral report. The course concepts are framed within the scope of practice differences between an HIS and other hearing healthcare professionals.
