This course is a comprehensive analysis of current occupational health and safety laws in Canada as outlined in occupational health and safety legislation and regulations in WHMIS regulations and workers' compensation statutes. Participants in this course will examine the application of the law and review the roles and responsibilities of the key stakeholders - government, employers, unions, and workers - in achieving a healthy and safe workplace. There will be an exploration of hazards, hazard recognition and control methods, training, emergency preparedness, ergonomics, and effective accident investigation techniques. Emphasis is placed on the role of the human resource professional in promoting employee safety and wellness.
