This course will examine the concepts, tools and techniques of revenue management (RM) as used in several tourism related industries. The course will review the contents of forecasting of demand, strategies and tactics, pricing, competitive analysis, inventory and rate controls and the measurement of key performance indicators. The inter-relationship and roles of the operational team and the sales & marketing team and the impact of the electronic distribution channels on hotel operating revenues will be examined. The student will apply the theory and concepts presented in class to evaluate the practice of revenue management in the tourism industry. Using revenue management processes, the student will calculate and compare various options, analyze outcomes and prepare the optimal revenue solution. Students will have the opportunity to take the CHIA (Certified Hotel Industry Analytics) certification exam at an additional cost.
