Strategic Tourism and Hospitality Business Planning

This course explains and strengthens the problem identification and solving skill. It also will address the strategic planning process as it applies to developing business plans for hospitality and tourism organizations. The strategic planning process requires both internal and external marketplace data, competitive analysis, product offerings and consumer behaviour. Students will undertake a research-based business planning project. Students will prepare a comprehensive business plan in a group setting for a real/current business issue, a case study and/or or create a business plan for a new business and present their findings/solutions. Using the fundamentals of business planning, feasibility analysis, operations, marketing and finance, the students will apply critical thinking to analyze options and illustrate plans. Guest speakers and case studies will assist in developing these strategic skills.
