Trends in Tourism and Hospitality

This course provides an overview of the current trends within the global tourism and hospitality industry. Students will examine how macro and micro-environmental factors affect the development of travel trends and weigh the benefits and drawbacks of economic, environmental, and socio-cultural impacts on host destinations, travellers, and the travel industry. Students will critique mass market approaches to tourism and contrast regenerative tourism practices that seek to center local and Indigenous knowledges to optimize benefits, and appraise solutions and future trend developments. Finally, students will apply their learning through a case analysis of a selected trend.
