Course Code: IDSN 1005

Academic Year: 2025-2026

History of Design is an historical course of study and analysis of the products and processes of design activity that represent human values, conflicts and aspirations. Industrial Design and Product Design, as well as influential examples from related design disciplines, are examined from early cultures to the end of the twentieth century. Subjects of analysis will be compared and contrasted to morals, values, political structures, belief paradigms, economic contexts and technical advances of the time in which they were created in order to provide a broad awareness, understanding and appreciation for the design activity and aesthetic ideals of civilization. In this framework, the student will be able fully to contextualize their own work as creators of tomorrow's artifacts.
