Reporting in Indigenous Communities

This course, inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's call for journalism and media schools to educate students on Aboriginal history, explores the past and present of Canada's relationship with its indigenous peoples. It gives an historical context while also providing students with the tools for sensitively reporting on indigenous communities, with a particular focus on urban settings. Students also explore critiques of mainstream media coverage of indigenous communities in the past and present.
