This course continues the development of skills learned in JRNL 115 and dovetails with Television Reporting 1. Students apply their developing newsgathering skills to the medium of radio or audio. The course examines tools and techniques for gathering good-quality audio and for conducting interviews for use on radio or online. The items may be used on Radio Humber 96.9FM and/or the online news site of the Journalism program. The students learn to use the audio editing function of the newsroom content management system, Burli, with proficiency. In addition, students study best practices of radio or audio and discuss the value of different types of sound-voice, natural sound and music to produce compelling audio reports. The course will encourage and develop critical listening skills.
