Magazine Editing and Production

Course Code: JRNL 400

Academic Year: 2025-2026

In this second-level magazine course, students apply the skills needed to write for trade, special interest, business and corporate magazines. Students develop the basic skills for magazine writing, editing and production for Canada's non-consumer publication market by producing a print-ready online class magazine and a multimedia online magazine. Students assume editorial and production duties and take responsibility for the publication, from clarifying the mandate and audience through assigning, writing and editing the stories to layout, design and preparation for printing or online distribution. At the completion of this course, students will have developed the skills to perform the functions of a staff or freelance writer or editor for a special interest, business-to-business or corporate publication, both print and online.
