Commencing with an analysis of the theoretical framework for international trade, this course introduces students to important legal concepts in both Canadian trade regulation and the general rules of public international trade law. It focuses specifically on the legal regimes applicable to (a) the international trade in good services, investment and intellectual property; (b) international contracts for the sale of goods; (c) the international carriage of goods and persons; (d) the settlement of trade disputes between states and investment related disputes between investors and states; (e) international trade finance mechanisms; and (f) the regulation of anti-competitive behavior and unfair trade practices.
