Jazz Arranging and Orchestration

In this course, students learn the skills and techniques necessary to arrange and orchestrate for a mainstream jazz ensemble consisting of rhythm section, brass instruments and saxophones. Instrumental ranges and timbral considerations are examined in depth. Students engage in critical listening to recorded examples in the style and apply their knowledge through written assignments, The skills developed in this course will provide students with the ability to arrange and orchestrate for a variety of instrumental settings.
