Visual literacy is the ability to read, decode and understand the many facets that underline visual imagery and its creation. The course analyses historical and contemporary artworks from the varied positions of viewer and creator. Examination of artworks' formal elements of design will be coupled with knowledge of the symbolism and meaning contained in its various visual elements. A survey of diverse, visual imagery encompassing a range of visual cultures and perspectives will be explored through lecture, group discussions, image creation, individual reflections and the making of accessible media.
