This course will provide students with an intersectional perspective on the news media and its effects on our understanding and perception of race, religion, gender and class. Readings will draw on work from a variety of academic fields and theoretical perspectives to help students consider the role that media plays in forming our perspectives of ourselves and others. The course will focus on the underlying forces, economic and political, that have helped create these perspectives and reinforce them in the current media environment.
