This course will examine the basics of music production through theoretical readings, discussion, and practical application. Students will be introduced to the professional recording studio environment and gain practical experience performing and producing in that environment. Professional recording procedure is learned, along with studio session planning, and the basics of microphone technology. Students will create basic mixes to perform edits on pre-recorded sessions and sessions in which they and their classmates are performers. A variety of styles, instrumentation, and genres of music will be explored along with production practices for those scenarios.
