This course offers students the opportunity to examine nursing and health care from a historical perspective. Students will explore the history of nursing in both Canadian and international contexts; the reciprocal influence of colonialism on nursing and health care; and the parallel history of women and the nursing profession. The following focus areas may be used as exemplars to frame discussions of the course concepts: mental health nursing, public health nursing, women's health, nursing education, nursing leadership, and nursing image.
