This course provides a historical, epidemiological, ethical, and legal perspective of substance use. The course draws upon the theories of substance use in the context of mental health, the cultural and societal influences that impact use and abuse. Within a nursing context, this course also presents an overview of substance use assessment, treatment settings, treatment approaches, and common co-morbidities.
