Proper nutrition plays a vital role in health, weight maintenance and reducing the risk of chronic disease. This course examines the key elements of good nutrition including the six classes of nutrients: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water. Additional areas of study include the digestion and absorption of nutrients, the implications of alcohol, weight management and diets. Special emphasis is placed on studying and utilizing Canadian resources such as Canada's Food Guide for Healthy Eating and Nutrition Recommendations for Canadians.
