Natural Health Products and Emerging Science

This course introduces students to alternative practices, products and therapies and how they can be used as part of a complementary approach to improving health and wellness. A major focus of the course is on functional foods and natural health products, as well as emerging science and research that is influencing practice. Students are required to critically assess health information, investigate natural health products and the physiological and psychological effects that can occur through their use, and compare and contrast to drug-free approaches to reducing the risk of chronic disease and enhancing health. This capstone course uses a case based approach to build critical thinking skills and encourage the integration and application of knowledge acquired throughout the program.
