Canadian Criminal Justice System

Course Code: PFP 101

Academic Year: 2024-2025

This introductory course provides students with an overview of the Canadian criminal justice system, with a particular emphasis on the function, role, organization, and co-dependency of Canadian law enforcement services, the courts, and the correctional system. By examining, critically analysing, discussing, and debating current contemporary issues affecting the Canadian Justice System. Students will be challenged to explore, test, compare, and defend multiple points of view on an issue, and question their own preconceived ideas about the way that these issues can be resolved. By learning to cultivate an EDIB mindset that incorporates a strategic problem-solving lens on these issues, students will gain a sense of responsibility for the world around them and the ability to add their voices to the important but complex conversations about crime and justice.
