Strong oral and written communication skills enhance the effectiveness, safety, and professionalism of police officers, contributing to more successful law enforcement outcomes and better community relations. This communications course will build upon lessons learned in the WRIT course. Learners will be expected to demonstrate effective communication strategies in written and oral forms. Professional writing skills will be refined by recording notebook entries, drafting general occurrence reports and supplementary reports as well as obtaining witness statements. Clear and precise verbal communication abilities will be enhanced to ensure competency in gathering accurate information and ensuring effective interactions with the public and justice partners.
