This course introduces students to the study of social contemporary issues and community service agencies approaches and responses. It provides students with the opportunity to examine and discuss the social structural and systemic factors that attribute to contemporary inequalities, health and well-being, gender-based violence and social determinants of health using a sociological lens. Students will analyze how social service ageapproach, respond and support prevention, intervention and rehabilitation strategies. Through a critical analysis in-class activities and the capstone project, students will also critique gaps, barriers and areas for capacity building for individual and social change. Emphasis is placed on the way forward for collaborations between community services, policing and the justice sector.
