Household Management, Safety and Assisting with Medications

This course explores and practices the through classroom, lab and simulation activities the role of the PSW in the home and community. The course provides information in order to assist the consumer/client with his or her nutritional needs, household activities and household management according to his or her preferences, comfort and safety, within employer guidelines. Additionally students will about the role of the PSW related to client medications in the home. The importance of observation for both desired and undesired outcomes and procedures to be followed in the event of problems or concerns about clients medications will be discussed. The student will develop and demonstrate skill in reading and interpreting information on prescription containers and demonstrate assisting with oral, topical, eye, ear and nose medications.
