This course is an introduction to the psychological study of human sexuality how we understand and express ourselves as sexual beings. Through readings, lectures, discussions, individual and group activities, and written reflections this course examines the complex interplay of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors involved in how humans experience, understand, and express sexuality in diverse ways. This semester long course covers a variety of topics, including historical and contemporary perspectives, anatomy, arousal and response, sexual health, gender development and identity, sexual orientation, sexual behaviours and fantasies, attraction processes, and intimate relationships. The real-life relevance and applicability of topics will be stressed as we navigate each course module. In this course you will have the opportunity to explore the relevance of human sexuality to your experiential lives and relationships. By the end of the term, you should have a greater understanding of personal, social, and ethical aspects of human sexuality and an enhanced ability to communicate about this important aspect of being human.
