Research and Survey Design

Course Code: RAPP 5001

Academic Year: 2025-2026

Quality research studies are a cornerstone in the creation of new knowledge and innovation. Quality, in part, is indicated by the clarity of the research question and the appropriateness of the research design and methodology. This course will teach students the steps in creating a research question with clear goals and objectives, outline the stages of the research plan, describe the difference between qualitative and quantitative methods, and provide guidance in creating a seminal research tool, the survey questionnaire. Additionally, students will learn how to assess research studies critically, analyzing them through the lens of diverse epistemological and ontological frameworks, value systems, and Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing, and explain how these perspectives and relationships are implicated in the knowledge claims about research findings.
