In this course, students will be introduced to the history and theory behind qualitative methods. Students will learn to recognize when qualitative methods are most appropriate for a research study, how qualitative research studies are designed, and why particular qualitative research methodologies are chosen and executed. Students will learn traditional methods such as ethnography, participant observation, interviewing, focus groups, and newer methods, such as arts-based. Additionally, students will be introduced to the visual and narrative ways of knowing, being, and doing of Indigenous research.
