This course provides recreation and leisure services students an overview of the history, philosophy, principles, and practices of recreation and leisure services in Canada and abroad. Students will explore the various sectors of recreation and leisure services, such as parks and recreation, sports, leisure and play, outdoor recreation, and active living facilities. Students will also explore the benefits of recreation and leisure for individuals, communities, and society, as well as the challenges and issues facing the recreation and leisure profession. The course will also introduce students to the skills and competencies required for working in the recreation and leisure field, such as leadership, communication, programming, evaluation, and professional development.
