A focus on health, wellness and recreation assists in creating a balanced quality of life for residents in senior living homes. This course is based on the exploration of the seven dimensions of wellness for diverse and mature audiences. Students will analyze the impacts of health, wellness, and recreation on determinants of overall health. They will identify the characteristics of various diverse populations to create effective strategies to meet their recreational interests and needs. Theories of aging, physiological age-related changes and strategies to promote healthy aging will be explored, along with common wellness and fitness fallacies. Students will learn effective strategies for residents who require memory care, and understand how to care and serve residents who suffer from dementia and Alzheimer's.
