Course Code: SCIE 2008

Academic Year: 2021-2022

Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. In the future, nanotechnology may be able to create many new materials and devices with a vast range of applications, such as in the manufacture of autoparts or uses in medicine. At the same time, nanotechnology raises many of the same issues as any new technology, including concerns about the toxicity and environmental impact of nanomaterials. This course will examine the history of nanotechnology, and discuss why it is being identified as a major technological advance in industry. It will investigate some of the fundamental scientific concepts in the field of nanotechnology, and consider the social and environmental concerns some scientists have raised.
