This course investigates the rapid evolution of technology during the last three millennia. Human life has been totally transformed by the developments of the industrial age and the spawning of modern society with its endless array of products and services. Studies explain the impact of pivotal innovations on our everyday experiences. Factors influencing technological breakthroughs such as scientific developments, materials and resources, political influences, and social and economic conditions trace the changes in our social progress. Class activities develop an understanding of how work, recreation, health, transportation, communications and the environment have been totally transformed by technology.
