Course Code: SCIE 4004
Academic Year: 2025-2026
The landscape of modern physics is riddled with some of the strangest discoveries in history: The Big Bang, Black Holes, The Nature of Light, Special and General Relativity, Quantum Strangeness, Bizarre Subatomic Particles, Dark Matter, Dark Energy, and, no doubt, something even weirder on the cosmic horizon. As science pushes the boundaries of the possible, old science fiction themes transform into possible realities: Baby Universes, Teleportation, Wormholes, Superstrings, The Multiverse, and even more outlandish explanations of the nature of our universe. Physics teaches us that truth can be stranger than fiction. Students explore these scientific discoveries, concepts, theories and interpretations through readings and tutorials, research a course-related topic, and present work in an individual or group project. A background in mathematics or science is not needed, but students can benefit from taking a lower level course in the Science and Technology category prior to enrolling in this upper level course.
