Course Code: SCM 3520
Academic Year: 2025-2026
The purpose of this course is to teach students the design and application of concepts of aggregate planning and controlling of manufacturing/operations. These concepts are critical to the management and optimization of an organization's resources, such as labour, machine capacity, space, raw materials availability and cash. Aggregate plans, developed and approved in a company's revenue and operations forecasting and planning processes, serve to meet customer needs in a cost-effective manner while considering all organizational constraints, efficient use of resources and meeting customer requirements. Concepts such as master production scheduling (MPS) and materials requirements planning (MRP) will be covered as will item-level techniques, such as bill of materials, lot sizing, setup times and sequencing. Students will also evaluate the interdependencies within manufacturing operations and their effect on managing of bottleneck operations. The concept of constraints management to maximize throughput is covered in the study of the Theory of Constraints (TOC). The course also examines applications of planning and control systems in services.
