Social Entrepreneurship

Course Code: SOCI 2999

Academic Year: 2024-2025

Social entrepreneurship is a movement that challenges the "business as usual" ethos. It represents a push from social entrepreneurs to improve the quality of people's lives on a large scale by tackling social problems such as poverty, illiteracy and hunger. Their efforts rely less on asking for charitable donations and focus more on creating sustainable solutions that can include innovative products, services and advocacy work. Social ventures take many different forms, ranging from traditional not-for-profit social enterprises to social businesses that seek profits but, more importantly, also focus on assisting people and the planet. This course investigates some of the most successful social entrepreneurs around the world and the challenges they're facing so that students can learn to design and implement their own plans for a social action project. Why wait for someone else to create a positive change when you might be the one capable of developing the most impactful solution to one of today's most pressing social issues?
