This course introduces first semester students to the human services sector. It provides an overview of relevant historical and theoretical influences in the development of social service work practices and methods, as well as the purpose, value base and principles associated with the profession. Students will develop knowledge of the performance expectations they must meet while in the field, as well as how to engage in meaningful supervision and personal self-reflection. This course provides an important foundation complementing practice skills taught in other courses.
