Students build on their previous studies in herbal medicine and develop herbal formulating strategies with reference to the composition, functions and classification of classical formulas; formula combinations, compatibility and modifications according to the clinical situations; and dosage forms & methods of administration. Students learn the principle of selecting a formula to achieve a specified therapeutic outcome, and differentiate the actions of similar formulas. Potential adverse effects, contraindications & precautions of the formulas are emphasized to ensure the safety of Chinese herbology treatment. Students learn 120 commonly used classical formulas in compliance with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario's (CTCMPAO) Entry to Practice Occupational Competencies and commonly used formulas.
