The Adult ESL Learner

The Adult ESL Learner course provides foundational knowledge in theories of language acquisition relevant to adult ESL education, including factors that impact upon it. The foundation is comprised of an understanding of broad learning theories, principles of adult learning, first and second language acquisition, and factors that influence learning, specifically those that are individual to a learner and those constructed socially. A bridging module is provided in this course for students with a Humber Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate of Achievement who aim to complete the TESL post-graduate program and become TESL Ontario, Ontario Certified English Language Teacher (OCELT) certified. Such students must complete a module on Canadian Language Benchmarks and the Language Instruction to Newcomers to Canada (LINC) curriculum.
