This course introduces students to the structural and organizational components of the international tourism industry, with particular reference to Canada in that context. The course examines Canada's portfolio of tourism experiences within their geographical context, the development and promotion of tourism destinations in general, and Canada in particular, the role of public and private sector organizations globally and nationally, their inter-relationships, and the fundamentals of destination marketing. Students will analyze issues pertaining to sustainability and socio-cultural impact in tourism development, experience local tourism hands on through a field excursion, and identify career opportunities and develop strategies to pursue these opportunities within the tourism industry.
