Building on the general principles of composition and color, students explore in depth, the nature of representational painting. Based on objective reality, representational painting conveys recognizable and readable images to the viewer. Typical examples of representational painting are portraiture, landscape and still life. These genres are explored through application of both in-direct and direct methods of oil painting, execution of drawing studies and colour sketches, along with generation of photo references to assist in the completion of the works. Visual reference to contemporary and historical, representational paintings will augment the practical application and learning achieved within the studio environment.
